Gryla’s South Pole Sideshow

Step right up! We have an incredible new attraction for you at Milwaukee Krampusnacht…the amazing Grýla’s South Pole Sideshow! This is a pop-up winter folklore museum filled with artifacts related to eerie winter folklore, a really fun way to learn about traditions from around the world. Inside you’ll marvel at…

Grýla’s Kitchen
Step into our sideshow proprietor’s kitchen cave to see what Grýla, the Icelandic troll-witch has cooking in her cauldron. You’ll also meet her 13 rascally sons, the Yule Lads, and her monster kitty Jólakötturinn, the Yule Cat.

Hodag Skull
The legendary beast of Rhinelander, WI’s incredible skull is on display, along with a mini Hodag Sticker Museum.

Midwest Snow-Beast

This certainly must be a cousin of Bigfoot or the Yeti. We’re not sure where the 6-foot Beast comes from, but he’s been frozen in time in a display case. You can get a sneak peek at the Beast on Sat. Oct. 17, at the Milwaukee Paranormal Conference at Kochanski’s: https://www.facebook.com/events/1486296496651153/

Ghost of the Mistletoe Bride
Hear the tragic story of the Mistletoe Bride, a classic English ghost story, straight from her spirit. An apparatus built by a paranormal investigation group appears to have trapped her inside a mirror.

Snow Wasset Taxidermy Mount
A creature out of Canadian lumberjack lore, we’ve nicknamed this odd piece of taxidermy “Wozzy.”

Namahage Mask
The Namahage are a similar tradition to Krampus from Japan. We’ve acquired a Namahage mask and other costume elements to display.

Tragedy of the Christmas Tree Ship
On November 23, 1912, the Rouse Simmons aka the “Christmas Tree Ship” sank off the coast of Two Rivers, WI, with a cargo of thousands of pine trees. People say that on winter nights, you can see the phantom of the Christmas Tree Ship sailing on Lake Michigan.

Dr. Auk’s Cabinet of Curiosities
Grýla’s assistant Dr. Auk– a plague doctor’s soul in an auk’s body, has assembled his own collection of small artifacts. You’ll see the Sugar Plum Fairy, a vampire hunting kit, some “space pancakes,” a Ukrainian Christmas spider ornament, and more!

South Pole Stage

Marvel at live circus performances on a small stage outside the sideshow tent at 4 and 6pm (as well as an indoor show 5pm at the Best Place Great Hall stage. Performers TBA.

Plus– be sure to stop at Grýla’s Gift Hut on your way out for some unique sideshow items!
